Hormone implant

Hormone implant

The hormone implant contains pure gestagen. I implant these plastic rods under the skin of your upper arm using local anaesthesia. They can be inserted up to five days after the start of your period. The implant is about the size of a match and works for three years. It releases the hormone gestagen, which prevents ovulation. Furthermore, the cervical mucous thickens, preventing the penetration of sperm cells.

The Pearl index is 0.1 percent. As a result, the implant is safer than the copper intrauterine device (IUD). It can also be used during lactation. In the first three months, mild spotting may occur or slight skin imperfections may appear.
